Dear Parents and Students:

As the seriousness of the situation continues, we find ourselves away from the classroom for longer.  We will be phasing out our Interim Learning Opportunities and implementing our Virtual Learning Plan on April 6, 2020.  In the last few weeks, we have worked diligently and have established meal plans, distributed devices, established licensing and access to digital programming, provided teachers with training and support and set up virtual learning environments for our students. Teachers have been working incredibly hard to prepare online learning that is meaningful and engaging.  As this will be the new normal for the near future, we are going to begin to normalize virtual learning as well.

Establishing a routine will be important in creating a new sense of normalcy.  We realize that the students are missing their teachers and their classrooms and we want to provide a sense of stability for them as things are changing so rapidly for many.  Teachers are also missing their students and are anxious to check in and be a resource for them. We understand that everyone is doing their best to prepare for this new reality and for what is to come.  It is overwhelming and will require thoughtfulness and compassion all around.

Please know that the creation of an entirely digital learning community is a large undertaking.  We have been working to ensure students and teachers have what they need to be safe and successful. What would normally take years to implement successfully, we are doing rapidly and making the best decisions possible in the most timely way.   During this uncertain time, the Cromwell Public Schools community appreciates your patience and understanding as we put together these plans for our students. As we find out more information, this plan is subject to change. As a district we are committed to communicating with all stakeholders will be providing updates regularly.   We will be following the recommendations of the Commissioner of Education, Miguel Cardona, and the Governor, Ned Lamont, and are collaborating with neighboring school districts. We will be updating the plan accordingly.
