RSCO Bus Routes and Student Transportation Information
Please read the following from Rashida Edens:
I want everyone to be in the know on steps needed to take when a buss misses a student, when there is a substitute driver. It is important for the student to be present at school and has transportation. I have reached out to CREC transportation to get clarity on what to do in the morning when students are waiting on the bus.
The steps are as follows;
1. Students have to be visible at the bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled time and the bus can come up to 10 minutes after the scheduled time. The driver does not have to wait until the scheduled time before leaving. Buses are allowed up to 10 minutes before or after their scheduled times. This window is allowed to accommodate for traffic, weather, and other occurrences that may alter a schedule. If buses are within the 10 minute window, they will not wait. Parents/Guardians are informed that they are only responsible for that period to be at the bus stop.
(This information is in the Parent Handbook and video on our Website).
2. If the bus is not there within that period, they should contact our customer service office right away at 860 524 4077. A CREC transportation rep will contact the bus company to find out the location of the bus and do a GPS. If the delay time is 5 minutes, I would recommend the parents/students remain at the stop.
3. Parents/guardians have the option of going home and requesting an Individual Dispatch (ID) in which a bus would come and pick up the student from their location (rules regarding complexes and cul-de-sacs still apply). The problem with an ID is, it is based on when a bus becomes available after they finish their regular route. It doesn’t happen right away.
Options for an Individual Dispatch (ID):
-If it is a case of the driver missing the stop, the parent/guardian can call for an ID. CREC Transportation will do a GPS to confirm that the bus did not stop.
-If the bus is a no-show, the parent should call CREC transportation. If it is confirmed by GPS, the student can get an ID.
*In most cases, if it is the student’s first time missing the bus, CREC transportation will give a courtesy ID.
